Last fall I shocked myself by voluntarily purchasing a gym membership. I have never been particularly active or athletic, so I was surprised to find myself being sucked inexorably into the addictive sport of rock climbing. It's the perfect blend of physical mastery and mental agility; I like to call it "vertical puzzle solving".
A Beginner's Guide to Rock Climbing
I put this mini-comic together after I had been climbing about six months. It covers a lot of the basic information I wish I had known when I had first started climbing. Now that I've been climbing for over a year, I'm thinking about putting together a sequel with more intermediate technique and training tips.
I occasionally drop off paper copies of this comic at my local, beloved climbing gym, Planet Rock. If you're in the Ann Arbor area, you should check them out.
Rock Climbing Humor
I almost always end up laughing when I go climbing, sometimes in triumph after completing a route or problem that I never thought I would be able to do, but more often in hysteria after falling flat on my behind after failing the start of a bouldering problem. It's fun either way.
